Perri: The Youth of a Squirrel (German: Die Jugend des Eichhörnchens Perri) is a 1938 novel by Felix Salten and is a follow-up to his 1923 novel Bambi. In 1957, Walt Disney adapted it into a film called Perri as part of its True-Life Adventures series. The book is in very good condition for its age. The dust cover has some tears, but the boards and in good condition and the pages are clean and tightly bound with the odd minor mark.
The novel was first published in English translation in 1938 because the German-language edition printed in Vienna was confiscated and destroyed by the Nazis in 1938. Only in 1942 did the book appeared in German language. Published by Jonathan Cape Ltd, this edition has a foreword by the English author John Beverley Nichols and is illustrated by the German-Austrian animal artist Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel (1881 – 1965).
Felix Salten (1869 –1945) was an Austrian author and literary critic. As a Jew, his books were banned in Germany by Hitler in 1936. After Germany‘s annexation of Austria, Salten moved to Switzerland with his wife, where he lived out his final years.
