Chinese Export Nanking Pattern Plate, Daoguang Period, 1820-1850

Blue and white Chinese Export plate in the Nanking pattern. The central depiction shows a river scene though the landscape with scholar objects in cartouches within the border.

The plate is neatly painted and potted with a neatly trimmed foot. It is in fine condition with no frits or cracks. The plate is typical of the porcelain of the Daoguang period (1820-1850). Plates were thicker than in the previous century. The porcelain clay is rougher with gritty foot rims. The glaze is thick and grey, with bubbles to the base.
