A watercolour landscape by Aberdeen artist, George Russell Gowans RSW (1843-1924)
Gowans studied at Aberdeen Art School, in London and Paris, and at the Academie Julian under Bouguereau. He lived and worked most of his life in Aberdeen and was a foundation member of the Aberdeen Art Society (AAS) in 1885. He painted powerful watercolours with broad skies and expansive views across the fields and moorlands of upper Deeside and in Picardy, France.
Elected to the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) in 1893. Exhibited at the Royal Academy (4) 1877-1891, Royal Scottish Academy (24) 1875, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (28), Royal Institute (1), Royal Society of British Artists (1), Glasgow Institute (22) and Aberdeen Artists Society 1886-1924.
