The ‘Nelros’ Cup of Fortune cup for tasseography or tea leaf reading. Tea leaf reading was at its peak in the early 20th Century. The cup features a pentagram design with mystic symbols on the inside, and ‘Would‘st learn thy future with thy tea, this magic cup will show it thee‘ written around the outside. The Nelros Cup of fortune was developed by Mrs Neville Ross of London where the design was first patented in 1904. Aynsley acquired a licence to the patent a year later in 1905. With scalloped edge and high D handle. No maker’s mark. ‘The ‘Nelros’ Cup of Fortune Rd No 442928 on the base.
Staining to the rim and wear to the enamel. No chips or cracks.
