Probably from the new type of locomotive introduced on the Paris- Montereau line around the middle of the 1800s. The Montereau No.5 was a longboiler built by Alfred Halette in 1847 for the railway company Montereau to Troyes, baptised ‘Sézanne’. This type of pipe was made by a couple of different manufacturers. This one is likely by Knoedgen in Belgium (1880-1920). A similar example may be found in Leeds Museum, marked "Montereau, Paris, No.3".
