William Constable Adam (29 August 1846 – 17 October 1931) was an English born (Tweedmouth, Northumberland) oil and watercolour painter of Scottish ancestry who spent the last 33 years of his life in the US. He is best known for street scenes and landscapes of Egypt, Holland and Scotland.
After completing grammar school, he began evening classes at the Glasgow School of Art whilst working as "clerk.". At the age of 19 he travelled to South America, to work and study art in Buenos Aires. A serialised travelogue of his travels in south America was later published in 1926. On his return to Scotland (early 1870s) he continued his art training and was an early member of the Glasgow Art Club. After travels in north Africa and advanced training in Paris he exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts.
