Victorian gothic revival burr walnut Betjemenns patent book slide in Burr walnut with brass fittings on an ebonised base. Patent expanding mechanism that uses a small wheel beneath each slide to support the weight as more books are added. Engraved brass fittings for "Betjemanns Patent 10056" and the retailer, T Forgie of 93 Buchannan St, Glasgow.

The Betjemanns patent book slide is the Rolls Royce of book slides with the premium burr wood veneers, brass fittings and the ingenious wheel supports for the slides marking their high quality.

T Forgie (later J & T Forgie) were founded in 1854 and remained at 93 Buchannan St for 22 years until they moved to more modern premises at 143 Buchannan St in 1876.
